Class Reviews
Jes's watercolor class was very calming and relaxing. She does a great job explaining and describing how to paint each step. Jes walks you through all the materials you'll need and even demonstrates the basic brush strokes you'll be using in the class. As you follow along with the step-by-step process, you'll begin to build layers and can add your own flare.
Jes's unique, loose, and carefree style is a great way to learn watercolor and not worry about the painting exactly matching the subject or the reference image. This allows you to focus on the painting experience and enjoy the spontaneous nature of the medium.

"Wild Watercolor: Painting Outside the Lines," Table 304, Wheeling, WV, December 2025
I've been an art instructor and professional artist for over five decades, and this was my first watercolor workshop after years of being self-taught, using DVD's, books, and online tutorials as guides to experimentation with the medium. I was very impressed with Jes Reger's knowledge of techniques and ability to get to the heart of watercolor painting using demonstrations and personal instruction. In one day, I learned more about this medium than all the hours spent trying to educate myself. She provided materials, various papers, and ideas for subject matter, while showing us how to render the most beautiful effects with ease. Not only is she an accomplished instructor, but her skill is of a highly professional level. In short, if you want to know how to embrace the medium of watercolor as opposed to struggling with it, seek out her workshops and sign up!

Jes's watercolor course is AMAZING! Her calm teaching style makes painting such a meditative and enjoyable practice. Throughout the course, she guides you through three different paintings--a forsythia, a blue jay feather, and a bluebird--offering valuable insights into techniques she uses for each. Jes shares so many tips, including a few clever tricks that I can’t wait to put into practice! The workshop thoroughly covers the basics, including Jes’ favorite tools and materials.
Witnessing her is a fascinating experience as she shows the exact technique she uses for her loose brushstrokes and unique artistic style. It’s truly captivating! I appreciate her emphasis on freeing up the painting process, allowing for more spontaneity. Thank you, Jes, for generously sharing your expertise and fostering a love for watercolor painting!
